About Me
I’ve been practising yoga for some 15 years and started teaching in January 2007 in Truro alongside my day job as an accountant. I relocated to North Devon in the Summer of 2009 having taken voluntary redundancy from my day job so that I could have a change of life, concentrate on my yoga and also broaden my own knowledge and skills in areas that compliment yoga.
I am a qualified British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) Diploma holder, and have also completed the Yoga for Pregnancy module. I am insured through the British Wheel of Yoga and undertake the Wheel’s requirement for continual professional development. Alongside yoga, I have also retrained as a massage therapist at the Devon Academy of Complementary Therapies in Barnstaple and I now work part time at the Academy as a therapist.
Yoga Style
I am influenced by the teachings of TKV Desikachar, as this is focused on modifying your yoga practice to suit each individual. I particularly like working with sequences, linking breath and movement together. I work with “sthira and sukham” from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali (these loosely translate to strength / firmness and grace / flexibility). By using these principles, yoga is great for improving posture and spinal movement.Having had a lower back problem for some years, I understand the need to work safely and within our own limits. If you do have any concerns then please do email me and I would be happy to discuss this with you.I love bringing different yoga styles and new things to try in the classes so that there is variety and interest, and hopefully a bit of humour as well!
